Description
Let’s go to Waitomo for the day, but this time we will visit yet another famous cave. Ruakuri is New Zealand’s longest underground cave and an experience that must be seen to be believed. It will leave you open-mouthed, awe-struck, and humbled by the sheer majesty of nature. Explore the magnificence of the cave and marvel at the unique rock formations, subterranean rivers, and thousands of glittering glow-worms. It was first discovered by local Māori over 500 years ago. The name Te Ruakuri, or “The Den of Dogs” was given to the surrounding area when wild dogs were discovered living in the entrance of the cave.
