Hunters Gardens of Marlborough

Tour # GMN-7 Starts Nov 7th  Ends Nov 10th

When you think of Marlborough you immediately relate it to the wonderful waterways of the Sounds or the grapes and wine making. But Marlborough has become much, much more. This is a well sort after tourist destination, which we are going to immerse you into over a period of 3 days. Gardens are the theme, but I am sure we will surprise you with local landscapes and attractions.

If you have always thought you would like to travel around “the Sounds” now is your opportunity.

Don’t miss it. Tickets are very limited, and go on sale 1 August. The opportunity may never pass by your way again.

Arrive Nelson you will be met at the airport on arrival and transported to your accommodation venue (You will be advised of venue on receipt of booking). We will all share a meal together this evening and chat about our gardens, wine and upcoming delights of the next few days.

This morning we board our boat and embark on a trip accentuated by birdsong, native bush and breathtaking views, visiting Ships Cove, the Bay of Many Coves, the Lazy Fish and Mistletoe Bay whilst cruising the tranquil waterways of the Marlborough Sounds and taking in the most spectacular array of gardens.
The Marlborough Sounds have been described as one of the most spectacular sites in the World. If you have not visited them before you are in for a real treat. Tranquillity abounds in the historic Ships Cove where native plantings have been carried out to encourage the Bellbirds, Tuis, Fantails and Robins; returning it to the era when Capt. James Cook noted it as his favourite anchorage. You will have the opportunity to take a short stroll through the native forest to a beautiful waterfall and discover how nature develops its own private gardens. For history lovers, the Cook monument relays a fascinating story of early explorers and their voyages round New Zealand.
From Ships Cove we motor to the 5-star Bay of Many Coves luxury boutique resort. Here you will be served a refreshing lunch, complimented by a glass of Hunters fine wine to be savoured along with this idyllic location.
Next we travel to the Lazy Fish. For the past 100 years this exclusive retreat, set on 5 acres of waterfront including its own beach, has impressed passing boaties and ferry passengers alike. From its parquet flooring to its private baths owners Tim & Sue Mordant will be there to impart both its history and just what is required to own and operate this special property in the Queen Charlotte Sound.
Our final stop is Mistletoe Bay where near the head of the Grove Arm, Cougar lines will treat you to afternoon tea. Here you will learn the history of Mistletoe Bay and its development into an eco-friendly village for groups or individuals to stay. Chris & Julia Knowles will explain their sustainable building and planting projects before you embark on the last stage of this wonderful day out.
Leaving Mistletoe Bay all you are required to do is sit back, relax and enjoy the short trip back to Picton. Please note that a suitable jacket and sturdy walking shoes are necessary. Though all the paths are easily accessible they can however be wet or slippery. This is a great adventure for friends, family or partners to share.
This evening you will get to attend Hunters for drinks and their famous charity auction.
NB: There will only be 40 seats available per day.

We leave Picton this morning @ 9am via coach and travel to Blenheim.
We will visit the highlights of this area en route and the remainder of the afternoon can be spent at the local Hunters Garden Fete.

We return to Nelson today in our coach, in time for departure
homeward – as time permits we will visit sites of interest.

We trust you return home rested and inspired, having visited private and public gardens, from divine courtyards, formal structures and large meandering spacious gardens and homesteads. These gardens will be complimented by natural beauty, stunning wineries, olive oils, gourmet cuisine and inspirational artists.
