Akaroa is a tender port, so please do everything possible to secure seats on the earliest possible tender. This will require you to be pro-active – early breakfast, early in the tender line, early on shore. We will be in attendance on the wharf from 08:30, and your tour will commence @ 09:00, however please report into as soon as you arrive on shore. When you alight from your tender continue walking along the wharf until on your right you will see the i Site (Information site) cabin, and almost opposite this you will see our agents selling stand displaying a sign with your names. Look out for the men in white Panama hats & blue shirts.
The Harbour and the town itself nestle in the crater of a long extinct volcano and the scenery, as we drive out of the township and climb up to the summit road on the crater rim, is in a word “stunning”, and at every turn in the road new panoramic vistas will appear.
Okains Bay – You will be guaranteed some awesome views on the road to Okains Bay.
Little Akaloa – Enjoy the coastal drive to Little Akaloa and hear all about its history. A once thriving dairy farming community with a Cheese factory.
Hilltop Tavern – Traverse to the top of the volcanic rim to take your fantastic photos of Akaroa peninsula & your cruise ship in the distance
Little River – A great stop for your lunch opportunity (not inclusive of price) with art galleries and craft places to peruse.
Manderley Farm is situated at Little River on the shores of Lake Forsyth in the Bank Peninsula region, and has been farmed by Ross and Mary Millar since 1974. The farm covers an area of 750 acres (300 hectares) and rises from sea level to 1500 feet. This stunning property has many spectacular vistas from bush clad hills to lake and ocean views, and is stocked by 1500 Sheep and 100 beef Cattle.
Manderley has been a popular Farm Tour for more than 20 years, attracting thousands of visitors from around the world. You will marvel at the skill and almost uncanny partnership of Ross with his champion dogs, as they respond to whistle commands, sometimes at distances of up to half a mile, and with speed and agility gather a mob of sheep from the nearby hills and herd them down to where Ross and his guests are standing. This display provides many great photo opportunities along the way you will also witness a sheep shearing demonstration, and Ross will talk of his experiences farming Manderley for more than 30 years. The Tour also includes a look around the homestead, originally built in 1876, and the beautifully landscaped garden.
Cheese Making – next stop is at Barry Bay Cheeses. Here you will get to see how cheese is still made and crafted by hand and also get to sample this great local product.
Robinsons Bay – A scenic drive from Barry Bay.
Takamatua Valley Vineyards Stop off at end of day for a little wine tasting.
